The Citroen C3X, a brand-new crossover sedan will go on sale in India sometime next year. After the C3 hatchback and the upcoming C3 Aircross SUV, the C3X will be Citroen’s third product built on the company’s India-specific CMP modular platform.
Citroen C3X Design
Citroen hopes to distinguish the C3X with its cutting-edge design, much like it did with the C3, which is essentially a hatchback with SUV-like ground clearance, or the C3 Aircross, with its clever three-row seating in a Creta-sized 4.3m SUV. The C3X will be the only sedan with fastback styling and an SUV-like high ground clearance.

The C3X sedan that will be sold in India will probably have similar front-end styling to the C3 Aircross, but it will have a sharply tapered roofline that ends in a tailgate that resembles a notchback. The C3X will have many SUV-like characteristics, including large alloy wheels, rugged-looking plastic body cladding all around, and ground clearance similar to the C3 Aircross. The C3X should have a length of 4.3 to 4.4 meters and a wheelbase that is similar to that of the C3 Aircross SUV.
Citroen C3X Features
Citroen India is heavily focusing on sharing parts among its models for better scale economies in addition to heavily localizing components to reduce costs. Between the C3, eC3, and the C3 Aircross SUV, we have observed shared interior features like the dashboard and seats. Expect the upcoming C3X to share more features with the C3 Aircross, such as the fully digital instrument cluster, the 10-inch infotainment system, the dashboard, the steering wheel, the seating, and the HVAC controls.
Citroen C3X Competition
The new C3X will compete with vehicles like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus, and Skoda Slavia, but it will also carve out a distinct niche for itself as a crossover sedan with styling that is similar to the larger C4X and C5X that are currently available in Europe.
Citroen C3X Powertrain
The upcoming C3X will sit on the modular CMP platform, which has been modified for Indian conditions, just like the other C-cubed models from Citroen. There will probably be no changes to the sedan’s single 1.2-liter, 110-horsepower turbocharged gasoline engine powertrain options. At least six months after the gasoline-powered sedan goes on sale, an all-electric version will also be available.
Citroen C3X Expected Launch
The C3X will be Citroen’s third product in as many years, and the company plans to introduce a brand-new model every year. It’s safe to assume that Citroen will continue releasing both internal combustion engine and electric versions within six months even though the company hasn’t provided a release date for the C3X.
The electric variant of the SUV is probably going to debut in February 2024, with the ICE version of the C3 Aircross due in July or August. As a result, the C3X should be available around July 2024, with the electric crossover sedan following six months later in January or February 2025.
